National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) through its Subsidiary NEC Uzima, on 18th October 2023, donated 200 cartons of Uzima Natural Mineral Water to the 5th Edition of SDG Run at the launch presided over by the 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rt. Hon Rebecca A. Kadaga(MP)at her office in Kampala.
The launch drew together several stakeholders including government representatives, non-state entities, sponsors and the media to underscore the importance of collective action for a better, more sustainable Uganda.
Hon Kadaga appreciated the generosity and dedication of the sponsors and Informed them that their contribution reflects their strong commitment to the sustainable development agenda in Uganda.
The 1st Premier further appreciated the support of government and non-state entities and observed that achieving the SDGs requires a collective effort.
The 1st Premier informed the country that the proceeds from this year’s SDG run will be dedicated to *the installation of a solar power supply system for Buliisa Health Centre 1V in Buliisa District and planting trees in the same district to mitigate change that may arise from oil processing in the Albertine Graben*
On behalf of NEC, Maj Edgar Ankwasa, General Manager, NEC Uzima, re-affirmed NEC’s Commitment towards supporting this year’s cause and beyond.
Maj Ankwasa re-emphasised that the SDG campaign touches the core values of NEC and UPDF in the following areas; access to clean water and sanitation which was part of the reason UPDF leadership came up with the initiative of bottling water that is accessible and affordable.
Maj Ankwasa underscored the role of UPDF in promoting peace, justice and strong institutions as enshrined in SDG 16. He observed sustainable development can not be realized in the absence of peace. He assured the Premier that UPDF will continue to guarantee peace at all times.
Citing SDG 17, Maj Ankwasa further observed that achieving sustainable development goals requires partnerships and collaborations to achieve results and observed that no single entity can drive the cause alone.
Maj Ankwasa assured the Premier that NEC will continue to support the initiative.
