Article 209 (d) of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda mandates the Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces (UPDF) to engage in productive activities for the development of Uganda. It is upon this background that the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs (MODVA)/UPDF incorporated a water bottling Company in the name of NEC Uzima Limited on 30th July 2015. Production and Sale of Uzima Natural Mineral Water started on 26th January 2016 and the bottled water was officially launched by His Excellency, President of the Republic of Uganda and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, General YKT Museveni during Tarehe Sita Celebrations on 06th February 2016. The initial idea was to produce bottled water for the UPDF, however, along the way, there was growing interest from the General Public for Uzima Natural Mineral Water which changed the Company’s focus to both UPDF and General Market Sales. The initial production line was of low capacity which could not sustain the growing demand. Therefore, the management took a Strategic decision to invest in a bigger fully automated production facility that was officially commissioned by H.E General YKT Museveni on 22nd February 2023. The Company is audited annually by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) under US: EAS 13 standard for Natural Mineral Water and is authorized to use the Q mark as a symbol of quality and safety of all our products. Indeed, Uzima Natural Mineral Water won the Peoples’ Choice Award for two consecutive years in 2023 and 2024 as the best Natural Mineral Water brand in Uganda.

Currently, the Company produces 330ml, 500ml, 1.5 litre bottles packaged in boxes and shrink packs in addition to the 18.9 litre jumbo bottles for dispensers that have attracted demand for office and domestic consumption. The Company supplies bottled water to high profile clients such as State House of Uganda, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), Kampala Capital City Authority, Nakasero Hospital Limited in addition to many other public and private organisations/agencies. Efforts are underway to maintain a presence in the General Trade Market through Route Sales, Supermarkets and Warehouse sales in Bugolobi, Kampala. NEC Uzima Limited is a contributor to National Social Economic Transformation of Uganda through payment of taxes and creation of employment opportunities to members of the General Public, Children and Wives of Soldiers. The company engages in numerous Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. Among these include the sponsorship for the Corporate Games, Uganda Medical League, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Run and other community initiatives in support of education, sports and Health.
